Descripción:

The project consists of developing an emissions inventory for the Ports of San Juan, quantifying target emissions by source, an operational assessment of cargo handling equipment and vehicles, an assessment of zero-emission technology readiness for use at the port, modeling baseline and forecasted energy use and demand, an infrastructure assessment to support electrification, and preparing an emission reduction road map. Other activities include conducting vulnerability assessments of infrastructure related to extreme weather events; developing plans for such events; engaging with port tenants, workers, and fleet operators; and holding meetings with local communities. To gather this information, we expect stakeholder involvement to include the setup of an air monitoring network for one year in areas surrounding the port.
The anticipated deliverables will comprise: a comprehensive baseline emissions inventory; a detailed summary of equipment and charging locations; the identification of zero-emission equipment options and associated infrastructure and utility upgrade requirements; port energy demand models; a strategic roadmap for greenhouse gas reductions; climate vulnerability assessments and adaptation plans; and community and workforce engagements initiatives. Stakeholder participation will further include the establishment of one year air monitoring network in the vicinity of the port.
The anticipated outcomes include: an enhanced understanding of current emissions and their sources; strengthened capacity to transition to zero-emission technologies and infrastructure; improved insight into future energy use and infrastructure requirements; the availability of emissions-reduction strategies; strengthened stakeholder collaboration; increased transparency and knowledge regarding emissions trends and progress; and expanded workforce development to support transitions to zero-emission technologies
